Description
IBA – Indole-3 Butyric Acid [ C₁₂H₁₃NO₂ ]- is a widely used plant growth regulator (PGR) in the auxin family, primarily applied to accelerate rooting in cuttings, enhance transplantation survival, and stimulate fruit growth. It is effective on various crops, including vegetables, fruits, and ornamentals, promoting cell division and preventing fruit drop.
- Primary Function: Induces adventitious root formation in cuttings (woody and herbaceous) and improves transplant success.
- Application Methods:
- Immersion (Dip): 50–300 mg/L for 8-24 hours.
- Fast Dip: 500–1000 mg/L for 5-7 seconds.
- Powder/Talcn: 0.1–0.3% concentration.
- Crop Use: Used on grapes, apples, tomatoes, cucumbers, and rice to improve rooting, fruit set, and overall plant vigor.
- Properties: Difficult to dissolve in water; soluble in organic solvents like ethanol and acetone.
- Mechanism: Enters plants through leaves or stems to promote vascular system development and nutrient flow.
- IBA is often preferred for root promotion due to its stability compared to other auxins.
